»On the finiteness of relative equilibria of four bodies in homogeneous potentials«

Abstract:
Using BKK theory, we found an upper bound on the number of nonde- generate relative equilibria on any potential of the form U  =  ∑ i < j mi mj r αi j   in the case  α  ∈  ℝ < 0. Using the above result, we could exclude a potentially infnite number of degenerate relative equilibria for  α  ∈  ℚ < 0 , concluding that there are only finitely many relative equilibria of any such potential as long as is rational. Together with (Hampton, 2019), this implies that α  → ∞   , the number of relative equilibria converges to some asymptotic maximum.
